Talking about the blogs political impact, the first incidence which comes in to mind where there are signs of strong political impact of blogs are the discussions related to the financial and political goals of U.S and the Israeli relations. Another incident where there was political impact of blogs was the Iraq war. It witnessed various bloggers adopting measured and passionate points of view that go beyond the traditional approach of left-right divide of the political spectrum.
When talking about political impact of blogs, there is another important incidence which instantly comes into mind is of 2002, when large number of online bloggers centered on the comments made by the U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott. He at party honoring U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, has praised Senator Thurmond by indicating that US would have been better off had Thurmond been chosen as the president. These comments were taken as racial segregation, a policy advocated by Thurmond's 1948 presidential campaign by the critics of Lotts. This point of view was strengthen by documents and recorded interviews dug up by various bloggers. Though Lott's comments were taken from a public event where lots of media personnel were present and despite this no major media organizations focused on his controversial comments until after blogs broke the story. Thus, this was one of the major incidents which showed how strong can be the political impact of blogs. The result of this incidence was that there happened a political crisis and because of which Lott had to step down as majority leader.
The blogs political impact such as the one mentioned above helped in providing greater credibility to blogs as a medium of news dissemination which was earlier seen as more of a gossip column by its critics.
